From your first scan to your 30-day trend — here's what daily gut tracking actually looks like.
Developed at the University of Bristol in 1997, the Bristol Stool Scale is the medical standard for classifying stool. PoopID identifies your type automatically from a photo and explains what it means in friendly, jargon-free language.
Separate hard lumps, like nuts. Hard to pass. A signal of severe constipation, often linked to dehydration or low fiber.
Sausage-shaped but lumpy. Indicates mild constipation. Many people pass this without noticing it's not ideal.
Like a sausage with cracks on the surface. Normal, on the firmer side of healthy.
Smooth and soft, snake-like. The ideal type for most people: easy to pass, well-formed, well-hydrated.
Soft blobs with clear edges. Lacking fiber; otherwise healthy. Easy to pass.
Fluffy pieces with ragged edges. Mild diarrhea; common during stress, food intolerance, or a stomach bug.
Watery, no solid pieces. Severe diarrhea; if it persists more than a day or two, hydration and a doctor's check are smart.
PoopID's AI identifies your Bristol type automatically and explains what it means in plain language — every check-in, every time.
A medium- to dark-brown colour is typical and healthy — the brown comes from bilirubin, a byproduct of red blood cell breakdown. Green can mean fast transit or leafy greens. Yellow or oily can suggest fat malabsorption. Pale or clay-colored may signal a bile duct issue. Bright red or black/tarry is a red flag worth a doctor's attention.
Bristol Type 3 or 4 — a smooth, soft, log-shape that holds together but isn't hard. Anything dramatically shorter, thinner, or fragmented over weeks deserves a closer look.
Soft enough to pass without straining, firm enough to hold its shape. The poop should leave the body in one or two clean pieces, not as multiple small lumps or as liquid.
Anywhere from three times a day to three times a week is considered normal — what matters more is what's typical for you. Sudden changes from your baseline are the signal worth tracking.
PoopID watches all four dimensions automatically. When something deviates from your personal baseline, you'll know — calmly and clearly.
One snapshot tells you very little. Thirty snapshots tell you everything.
See exactly how a fiber bump, a low-FODMAP swap, or a probiotic course shows up in your stool patterns within days.
Antibiotics, NSAIDs, and certain supplements visibly affect stool. PoopID makes the recovery curve obvious.
Most digestive issues don't arrive overnight. PoopID's 30-day trend surfaces gradual change before it becomes a problem.

Adults exploring how their diet, hydration, sleep and stress show up in their digestion — without the clinical heaviness.
A frictionless way to log what's happening day-to-day, watch trends after diet changes, and bring real data to GI appointments.
Pediatric digestive concerns are stressful. PoopID's friendly Poopy voice keeps the daily check calm and non-clinical (12+ rated).
Antibiotics can shift gut flora for weeks. PoopID makes the recovery visible and helps you spot if probiotics are doing their job.
Keto, low-FODMAP, vegan, fiber-bumped — PoopID quantifies what your gut is saying back to you, faster than a food diary alone.
Most of us check the toilet bowl and hope. PoopID replaces that hope with something close to actual information.
PoopID was built with the obvious truth in mind: nobody wants their photo history visible at a glance. So we made privacy the default, not a setting you have to discover.
Snap a photo of your stool and PoopID's AI returns a Bristol Stool Scale classification (Types 1–7), a 0–100 gut health score across four dimensions (consistency, hydration, comfort, safety), and red-flag detection that flags when something might be worth a conversation with a healthcare professional.
No. PoopID is a personal wellness tool, not a medical device. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease, and is not a substitute for professional medical advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider about your health.
PoopID's AI is trained to identify Bristol types and visual patterns associated with general gut health. Accuracy depends on photo quality and lighting. PoopID gives a wellness signal, not a clinical conclusion — when in doubt, a healthcare professional is always the right next step.
PoopID's BlurShield automatically blurs your photos in history and the app switcher by default. Photos are encrypted in transit and storage, never shared with third parties, and you can delete any entry — or your whole account — at any time.
PoopID offers an auto-renewable subscription with a free trial on the annual plan. Subscriptions can be managed and cancelled in iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Unused free trial is forfeited on purchase.
PoopID is localized in 39 languages including English, Turkish, German, Spanish, French, Russian, Chinese (Simplified & Traditional), Japanese, Arabic, Portuguese (BR & PT), Italian, Korean, Dutch, Polish, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Malay, Czech, Slovak, Romanian, Hungarian, Ukrainian, Catalan and more. PDF reports are localized too.
PoopID is rated 12+. Parents tracking a child's digestive health are welcome, with the same privacy guardrails. PoopID never replaces a pediatrician's advice.
The AI analysis runs in the cloud, so an internet connection is required for new scans. Past scans, history, trends and PDF export work offline.
No personal photos are used for model training. We continuously improve PoopID's AI on properly licensed and de-identified medical imagery, never on user submissions.
